Hi nicmo.

I’ve just gone through the documentation regarding the ELO rating system, and the math behind it makes perfect sense on paper. However, I have a quick tactical curiosity about how heavily ELO weighs in the match engine compared to a team's actual raw strength. This is absolutely not a complaint, just pure curiosity!!!

I recently played a friendly match that caught my eye. My team faced an opponent with an AVQ that was more than 3 points lower than mine. On top of that, his squad condition was worse, I had more possession, and both of us ran neutral tactics. Despite having the upper hand on paper in almost every metric, I still lost. The only major difference was the ELO gap: he was sitting at 1854 versus my 1692.

Does the ELO rating act as a massive factor in the simulation, to the point where it can consistently override a 3+ AVQ advantage and better physical condition?

I’m asking because I just secured promotion from div. C4 to B2. My team's AVQ is actually superior to almost everyone in my upcoming league. However, because I'm the new guy coming up, my ELO is lower than nearly all of them. Am I about to face a massive uphill battle in div. B2 purely because of the ELO deficit, despite having the mathematically stronger squad? Would love to get some insights on how these forces balance out in the engine.

Thanks for the amazing game and for insights you can share!

@Manatasaray Elo rating has no weight in the simulation, it's just an indicator to track the results of a team. Check here:

Thanks for the link! I’m familiar with how ELO works in sport games (I play EA FC and it matters a lot in the matchmaking 😉) but I was just curious about its specific application here in KickoffBoss.

The reason I asked is because the game documentation literally mentions: “Before a match, the system calculates how likely each team is to win based on their current ELO ratings.”

@Manatasaray yeah, but that's just an automatic prediction with no purpose. The match engine only looks at the players' skills and bonuses, not even at their AQ.
If your Elo is lower than the opponents', but your team is stronger, it only means your Elo will grow fast next season

Gotcha! Thanks for your feedback @maridiba, I appreciate it!

I'm a new user and it's fun to learn this stuff.
